  • Camuy Caverns

  • Site of the subterranean caverns carved out by the Camuy River one million years ago. Impeccably maintained trails gently descend through a fern-filled ravine to cathedral-like caverns. Picnic areas, walking trails, refreshments, exhibition hall and a gift shop. From Arecibo, on the north shore, southwest along Route 129 to Rio Camuy Cave Park.
  • Dorado Marine Center

  • East Wind Catamaran

  • Snorkel, picnic and sail to Icacos islands. Enjoy sun and shade deck, buffet lunch and pina coladas. Includes snorkel gear and instruction. Departs from Villa Marina in Fajardo; (787) 863-2821 or (787) 863-4267.
  • El Arsenal

  • Built in 1800, El Arsenal became the last bit of "tierra espanola" in Puerto Rico. Spanish soldiers awaited their evacuation here, after the Spanish-American War in 1898. Exhibitions in three galleries.
  • El Morro Fortress

  • Rising 140-feet above the sea, this six-level fortress with its 18-foot-thick walls proved a formidable defense. It fell only once to a land assaualt by the Earl of Cumberland's forces in 1538. The fort is a maze of tunnels, dungeons, barracks, outposts and ramps.
  • El Yunque

  • This US National Park and bird sanctuary is a rain forest, so expect precipitation and come prepared. The showers are short, however, and there are plenty of shelters throughout the park. Among the crags, waterfalls, ferns and wildflowers are many marked trails to enjoy on foot or horseback.
  • Old San Juan

  • Originally conceived as a military stronghold, this 465-year-old neighborhood has evolved into a charming residential and commercial district. When the UN designated world-class historic sites such as the Taj Mahal, it named six monuments in Old San Juan. Take a leisurely foot tour or cruise or tour the harbor by ferry or tour boat. The cruise-boat tours pass El Morro Fortress, Casa Blanca, the city wall, San Juan Gate, La Fortaleza and the Customs House. The Catano ferry leaves daily every half hour. From the dock, you can walk to the famous Bacardi Rum Plant (daily tours, except Sunday). Trips depart from Pier 2.
  • Plaza del Quincentenial

  • Opened in October 1992, this plaza commemorates the 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the New World.
  • San Cristobal Fort

  • Completed in 1771 and reworked in 1783, this fort was El Morro's partner in the city's defense. It rose 150-feet, covering 27 acres of land. A strategic masterpiece and a World Heritage and National Historic Site, it features five units, each connected by moat and tunnel; each self-sufficient should the others fall. Open daily.
  • San Juan Museum of Art and History

  • A museum showcasing native art and music, including concerts and festivals.
